February is National Cancer Prevention Month, a time we focus on ways we can protect ourselves from cancer. In 2024, approximately 2 million Americans were diagnosed with cancer.

This month, Telligen is highlighting the importance of cancer prevention and treatment for those diagnosed with cancer. Cancer diagnosis and effective treatment aim to cure or considerably prolong the life of patients to ensure the best possible quality of life.

Here’s how Telligen helped one member’s cancer journey.

When Cancer Strikes

When the member’s prostate screening indicated higher than normal levels, they saw a urologist and underwent additional screenings, exams, and ultimately a biopsy. The process for undergoing these procedures was lengthy, and the the member was constantly rerouted and rescheduled.

“It took what seemed like an eternity to schedule the biopsy,” the member said. “I was constantly rerouted and had unreturned calls, leaving me with a pervasive feeling of apathy systemwide.”

The Bridge Between Patient & Provider

When the member had to call Telligen for a prior authorization for their biopsy, they were routed to a Telligen representative. The Telligen representative reviewed their diagnosis and work with the member to detail future steps to maximize positive outcomes.

“Due to lengthy delays and poor communication from the previous facility, I requested assistance in finding a medical facility that was more responsive and proactive regarding my care,” the member said. “With Tasha’s help, I was referred, seen and a care plan implemented immediately!! I am forever grateful for the intervention and referral.”

From Overwhelmed to Empowered

The member is now recovering from treatment and considers the contact with his Telligen repesentative an integral aspect of their treatment and recovery.

“Having a person who is outside of your actual care team monitoring and charting your progression — who also provides constant access via email and calls — is a vital element often missing in today’s medical treatment systems,” the member said.
